The Story of the Chippy Chapel

Several years ago, on a family kayaking day at Lake Carey, my parents mentioned a nearby little old Chapel in the woods that they could envision converting into a tiny house. I took a peek at the property and thought, "Wow, what a magical place! It would make a beautiful wedding venue!"

Chippy White Table was only two years old at that time, and the thought of a venue space was in the distant future. My parents decided against the tiny home, as the chapel property wasn't for sale back then.

By 2020, Chippy was heading into our fourth wedding season, and the dream of having a venue of our own was starting to feel a little closer. That little white chapel at Lake Carey had always stayed in the back of my mind.

I took another ride up to see the property, which was being used for storage at the time, and immediately fell in love with the Chapel and its tucked-away setting in the woods. After a little digging, I connected with the owners and shared my vision of turning it into a magical little venue.

Even after giving them my best Chippy story and charm, they had other plans for the property and weren’t ready to sell. So once again, the dream had to wait… but I still knew the Chapel was something special.

A few more years passed, Chippy White Table continued to grow, and the idea of the Chapel never really left us.

Then one night, while watching Netflix with my husband, I got a text from Karyn Chick with a Zillow link: “Is this the chapel you love at Lake Carey?” Sure enough, it was!

I wanted to call the realtor right then at 10 PM, but somehow waited until 8 AM the next morning. We met at the Chapel the following day, and I just knew. Even without heat, power, floors, plumbing, or electricity, this little Chapel in the woods was meant to become our Chippy Chapel.

Without hesitation, we made the offer to purchase, and as fate would have it, it was accepted! It's still hard to believe it's ours!

On August 3rd, 2023, the Chippy Chapel became official. We know we have a long but exciting road to bring it back to life. But we can't wait to see it all unfold and put in the hard work to transform it into the most magical little venue space for weddings, events, showers, retreats, gatherings, and more.
