Coming Home to Yourself: A Somatic Education and Movement Workshop

Facilitated by Kerri Homerick of Psyche-Body-World, integrative somatic practitioner and doctoral candidate, this workshop incorporates both education and gentle somatic movement practices oriented toward nervous system literacy, deepening somatic awareness, and exploring what it means to tiptoe past the edges of restrictive self-protection toward a deep sense of homecoming. Somatic education will center around the nervous system’s adaptive responses and how experiences of stress, trauma, addiction, disconnection, and relational wounding can shape the way we inhabit our bodies and move through the world, and how reconnecting to the disenfranchised body can foster a deep sense of belonging within oneself, with others, and to the world itself.

Drawing on the work of pioneers such as Wilhelm Reich, Mary Starks Whitehouse, Marion Woodman, Eugene Gendlin, Peter Levine, Arielle Schwartz and others, this workshop invites participants to move beyond viewing the body as something to fix, control, manipulate, or conquer, and instead approach it relationally, as a vital source of wisdom and a meeting ground for transformation. At the intersection of somatic psychology, depth psychology, and movement, this view recognizes that the psyche, body, and world are in an inseparable relationship, and regards the living body as an incredibly intelligent intermediary and feedback system.

In community, we will engage with the body not only as a physiological organism or a nervous system to regulate, but also as a living expression of the psyche—one that carries our stories, wounds, adaptations, instincts, and innate capacity for connection, belonging, and renewal.

This workshop is appropriate for all experience levels. No prior movement or somatic experience is necessary.
